Dresden: Services for Mrs. Daye Hillis Mayo were at 3:30 Saturday afternoon at the Bowlin Funeral Home chapel. Mrs. Mayo died suddenly of a heart attack at 11:30 Thanksgiving evening at her home 302 Locust Street.
The Rev. Ray Dykes, pastor of the United Presbytertian Church, Greenfield, officiated with burial in Sunset Cemetery.
Mrs. Mayo was born June 16, 1893 in Greenfield, the daughter of late Ellen Kemp and S. J. Hillis. She came to Dresden after her marriage to the late Dr. Basil S. Mayo. They lived in Greenfield several years and returned to Dresden shortly after World War II. She was owner-manger of Mayo's Store until her retirement a few years ago. She was loved by everyone and will be missed by a wide circle of friends as well as her family to whom she was very devoted. She was always had a word of encouragement to those she met. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Greenfield.
She leaves one son, Lieut. Commander Thomas Hillis of San Dieago, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Jane) Cowgill of Homewood, Ill., and Mrs. Robert (Ellen) Schleich of Greenfield; two sisters Mrs. Jessie Elkins, Dresden and Mrs. Dean Grooms, Greenfield and eight grand children.
Pallbearers: Robert E. Shannon, Gary Williams, Jack Grooms, Zeb Grooms, Gerald Grooms and Richard Shannon.
