Hawley, Dies
Robert W. Bearden, 73, of Hawley, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Hendrick Memorial Hospital after a week's illness.
Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hawley Baptist Church with the Rev. Jake Armstrong, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by an Abilene pastor.
Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery under direction of Kiker-Warren Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at Kiker-Warren until an hour before the service.
Mr. Bearden was born Oct. 22, 1882, in Buckner, Ark. He moved to Bell County with his parents when a small child and was reared there.
He married Lula Ann Whitley in Rockdale on Sept. 11, 1902. The couple moved to Jones County in 1919 from Bell County and had lived in Hawley since 1938. A retired farmer, Mr. Bearden had farmed in Jones County since 1919.
Survivors are his wife; six sons, Hollis Bearden of Rankin, Lloyd of Dallas, W. W. of Hawley, J. W. of San Angelo, E. L. (Pete) Bearden, with the Abilene police force, Carl Louis Bearden of Stamford; three daughters, Mrs. R. I. Snell of Rankin, Mrs. R. L. Carter of Abilene, and Mrs. W. R. Thorne of Silver; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. M. C. Taylor of Amarillo; 31 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Annie Mitchell of Wylie.
