James was the son of Elias and Ruth (Nelson) Martin. He was born in Wapello County Iowa. He married Fannie Vina Rood on April 12, 1874 in Schuyler County Missouri. He later married Louisa May (Leslie) Bounds. Fannie and James children were: Alonzo Francis, Flora Effie, Deora, Della, Alva Louis, Elmer, Mary Agnes, Clarence, Ruby J., Dora, and William Everett. Louisa gave him Zelma.
We were told James donated the land for the Fabius Cemetery where he is buried, but the date of his birth makes that impossible, so it must have been his father Elias Martin who donated the land.
