Charlotte was the second child of William Alexander Stuart (Monaghan, Ireland) and Frances Courtenay (Middlesex, Ontario), born in Ferndale, Ontario.
About a year after her mothers death, the family moved to Michigan where she met and married George Washington Diffin on Sept 29, 1879.
Charlotte and George had 11 children:
Lilah Matilda 1880-
Eva 1883-1903
John Alexander 1885-1939
Clara Bell 1887-
Clayton H 1889-1953
Unknown Female 1891-1891
Jennie 1892-
Frances E 1895-
Myrtle 1898-
George Jr 1900-1965
Margretta R 1893-1988
Charlotte had lost 4 children before her husband, George, died on Apr 26, 1905 of typhoid fever.
Charlotte worked as a dressmaker and took in lodgers to support her children. Nov 8, 1920 she married one of her lodgers, Julian George Darling, a Seventh Day Adventist, and joined his church.
December of 1929 older sister Mary writes "...she is certainly comfortable - nice home and a nice man."
Charlotte and Julian were together until her death, aged 74, outliving 7 of her children.
