Funeral services for Duane Abla will be Wednesday, November
3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Erick First Baptist Church officiated by Charlie Floyd.
Duane Abla was born January 28, 1943 in Erick, Oklahoma to
Rosa Faye and Melvin Abla. He passed away October 30, 2010 at Erick, Oklahoma at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 2 days.
Duane graduated from Erick High School in 1961. He married
Carolyn Harding on June 1, 1969 and made their first home in Shamrock, Texas, where Duane worked at Puckett's as the produce manager. The couple later moved to Erick in 1971, where they have lived since.
The Ablas have two daughters: Christi, born in 1973 and Chanda, born in 1986. His girls were the love of his life, and he cherished each moment spent with them. Duane loved to tell stories about his family, especially those about his children.
Duane served in the National Guard for four years and later
became an EMT. He served as the Director of the Erick Ambulance Service, one of his proudest accomplishments in life. He also worked as the City Treasurer for the City of Erick for many years and was a familiar face to everyone in the surrounding area. He was a member of the Lions Club and was an avid gardener and loved
wood working.
Duane was preceded in death by his father, Melvin on Feb. 19, 1989 and one brother, Jerrel Abla, in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of the home; daughters
Christi Lansden and her husband, Brent, and their children Gunnar, Averi, and Devyn, of Beaver, OK and Chanda Helton and her husband, George, and their daughter Malachi of Elk City, OK; mother, Rosa Faye; two brothers, Kirby Abla and his wife Janet ofDarlington, South Carolina and Randy Abla and his wife Linda of Liberal, KS and one sister, Melva Barker of Reydon, OK. He alsohad numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and relatives.
Burial will be at the Erick Cemetery under the direction of
Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home. Condolences can be made online
