Died when his clothing caught fire.

Judge Travis has ordered a court of inquiry today into the death of Bartley Sullenger, Tuesday night about 9:30. He was found practically cremated in front of the colored Methodist Church, N. Maple St. by Clifford Smith. Smith called Thos. Farmer and the two assisted in extinguishing the flames of clothing. A physician arrived shortly after being summoned pronounced the death.
From all reports Sullenger was placed between the steps and wall of the building by his son and nephew after being found in the uptown section. Nearing the church Sullenger, a large bulky man. could go no farther and the youths place him in the position described. He was 57 years of age and for many years a resident of the city of Marion. Funeral services were held on Christmas Day at Whites Chapel with interment in the church cemetery.
