Durwood passed away on 16 Jan 2003, at Colonial Pines Nursing Home in Oxford, Alabama following complications of a stroke. In an ironic twist, Durwood died exactly one week before his mother, Carrie Hicks. His mother died at Regional Medical Center, Anniston, Alabama at the age of 96 years. Durwood is buried in Dogwood Trails Memorial Gardens, Oxford, Alabama.
