MRS. G. W. SHARP DIES TODAY AT THE AGE OF 82

Splendid Woman was Widely Known and Loved.

Mrs. George W. Sharp died this morning at her home, 615 North Elson street, aged 82 years, following a long illness. She had been a resident of Kirksville for many years.

Funeral services will be announced later.

Mrs. Virginia Marmaduke Sharp, wife of the late Rev. George W. Sharp, was born in Palmyra, Mo., Sept. 15, 1840. Her father and mother were pioneers from the State of Virginia and from them she inherited the staunch character and high principles which actuated her entire course through life.

Mrs. Sharp was a woman of prayer, spiritual and mental attainments. Endowed with a remarkable memory—she possessed a store of information which made her ever a delight to her friends. She was a mother not only to her own dearly beloved children and grandchildren, but every passing child possessed a touch of life and solicitude. Perhaps the outstanding and chief characteristic of her life was sacrifice. Always thoughtful for others she gave of herself freely and unstintingly so that many have come through her guidance and love to call her blessed.

For several years past Mrs. Sharp had been enfeebled, but remained cheerful to the last, never relaxing her vigilance in all matters pertaining to her home and also kept keenly alert to affairs of the outside world.

She passed away peacefully at her home on North Elson street at 3 o'clock this morning.

Mrs. Sharp is survived by three living children: Mrs. Virginia Cullimore, of this city, who was at her mother's bedside; Mrs. George B. Simpson, of Kansas City, and Miss Grace Sharp, of Shreveport, La.
