Gail Markey
Gail Wade Markey, 45, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Ill.

Born Jan. 13, 1964, in LaHarpe, Ill., he was the son of William Anthony "Tony" and Priscilla Karen Gooding Markey. On July 2, 2002, he married Julie Beach in Carthage.

Mr. Markey worked 18 years for General Electric in Burlington, retiring in 2007, due to a disability. He was a 1982 graduate of Dallas City High School. He served in the Army from 1982 to 1986, and served four years in the National Guard during Desert Storm. He was a member of Dallas City American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife: six children, Anthony James Markey, Joseph Thomas Markey, Jessica Marie Markey, Jillian Ann Beach, Jessica Leigh Beach and Rayden William Markey, all of Dallas City; his father and stepmother, Tony and Alene Markey of Dallas City; three sisters, Joanne Denise Brown of Elizabeth City, N. C., Jacqueline Dee Countryman of Lomax, Ill., and Christina Marie Markey of Fort Madison; and two brothers, Paul Anthony Markey of Dallas City and Christopher Dean Markey of Anderson, S. C.

He was preceded on death by his mother.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 9 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Markey will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with the Rev. Tony Trosley officiating. Burial with military rites will be at a later date in Gittings Mound Cemetery near Dallas City.

A memorial fund has been established for his children's education.
