Rich was born December 20, 1934 in Felt, Idaho, to Joseph Hatch and Della Louise Rudd Hatch. He grew up in Felt and Tetonia and attended schools in Teton Valley. He then attended Ricks College and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Utah State University. He later graduated from Barber School in Ogden, Utah.
Rich served in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific.
He married Vaudis Stewart on January 28, 1978 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Vaudis passed away November 20, 1989. Rich started barbering with Jack Heward until he went out on his own. He owned the Westbank Barbershop and moved the shop to "E" Street in 1990. He closed his barbershop in 2009 due to poor health.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rich served in various capacities over the years, including as a Priesthood teacher and counselor in a Singles Branch Presidency with President Reed Monson. At the time of his death he was serving as Idaho Falls West Stake Sunday School Secretary. Rich was an artist, musician, and collector of many things. He enjoyed swimming.
Richard is survived by two daughters: Debi Alderson, of Idaho Falls, and Janice (Dave) Hill, of Roy, UT; two sons: Jeff (Vicki) Griggs and Mike (Julie) Griggs, both of Idaho Falls; three brothers: Ben Hatch, of Tetonia, Tom Hatch, of Elko, NV, and Jay Hatch, of Ashton; three sisters: Ruth Parker, of Three Forks, MT, Lucy Thomas, of Dubois, and Lois Kneedy, of Tetonia; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vaudis; a daughter, Joette; brother, Ray; and sister, Ileen Flamm.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010, at the Idaho Falls LDS West Stake Center, 2040 Brentwood Drive, with Bishop Steve Bates of the Idaho Falls Westhill Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., both at the church.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
