Every spring brought exciting matches and many notables came out for the lavish affairs. T.W.Doswell served as a staff officer in the Civil War and was Sheriff of Richmond for eleven years.He signed Jefferson Davis' bail bond. The hamlet where Bullfield was has been re-named Doswell in his honor.
He married Frances Ann Sutton 30 July 1856.
His parents were Thomas Doswell and Susan Brown Christian Doswell.

… "You must tell all my relations that I have not yet had time to write, as Jackson keeps us moving. It seems that whole time –marching day and night-last night I had a big oak tree for my shelter and you will no doubt be surprised when I tell you I slept quite soundly.
I am in hopes that you have received my letters, but I know the uncertainty of the letters reaching home. I have thought of you all so often and wondered what you are doing. I live in hopes that you may all keep well...
…Have not received a letter since I left home or heard anything at all, though know in our rapid movements that no letters could reach me- present my love to all of my relations without specifying... with a bushel of love for yourself and many kisses for Sally and Bernard- believe as ever my dear wife."
