Martha Ann Basham Stone, the daughter of Henry D. Basham and Carrie Hardin, was born on February 2, 1850 in Union Star, Breckinridge County, Kentucky. She was the second wife of George Washington Stone, the son of Aaron Thompson Stone and Eleanor Patterson, He was born on December 3, 1846 in Grayson County, Kentucky. He was previously married to Sarah Ann Yates, the daughter of Valentine Yates and Martha H. Thomas.
"Mattie" Basham and George Washington Stone were married in Breckinridge County on December 29, 1879. They were the parents of the following children born in Leitchfield:
1. Stuart Basham - b. 1 Nov 1880
2. Ruby D. - b. Dec 1890
At the time of the 1880 Census of Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky the George W. Stone household consisted of: Geo. W., a Lawyer, age 33; his second wife Mattie B., a House Keeper, age 30; and his children by his first wife Sarah Ann Yates: Dora V., age 7; Warren T., age 5; and Edna Y., age 3. Living with their family was Mollie Linder, a servant, age 23. All were born in Kentucky with their parents born in Kentucky, except for Mattie's father, who was born in Virginia.
George Washington Stone died on November 8, 1921. He was buried in the Thomas cemetery with his first wife Sarah Ann Yates Stone. His second wife Martha Ann Stone survived him until her death on March 23, 1933. She was also buried with him in the Thomas Cemetery.
