"The Fayetteville Observer," Thursday, 3 February 1859; Page 3, Col. 5 (No. 39, Vol. 8)
Mr. Nathaniel Ashby is no more. On the evening of the 28th of December, his spirit passed into the hand of Him who gave it.−His exit was like the calm fadings of a summer's eve: not a groan, nor even a sigh broke the stillness of his departure. He was born in Lincoln county, Tenn., on the 11th of March − aged 26 years and 19 months. His health had been delicate for some time previous to his death, but no serious fears were entertained until he was attacked with the fever of which he died. He leaves behind him many relatives and friends to mourn his loss. May God sanctify this bereavement to their eternal welfare; especially may his aged moth- fresh courage take in warfare of faith, that he may win a home in "the land of the blest," and be reunited with his loved sister. He was a kind and affectionate boy, a most excellent neighbor, either in sickness or in health. What more need we say? He left behind him "the savor of a good name" and has "entered into the rest that remaineth to the people of God." J.M.G.
(NOTE: The "loved sister" referred to is Rachael Elizabeth Ashby Warden, first wife of John Warden; both of them are also buried in this graveyard.)
