Grace was the first child of Rev. James Dinsmore Kerr and Sarah Ann Lyman Kerr. As quoted from a biographical article written by James Kerr in 1884: "... On August 15th of the same year [1865] I was married to Miss Sarah A. Lyman, a daughter of one of the elders of the church of which I was pastor, and who brought me a dowery [sic] of love and fidelity which after a period of almost nineteen years, shows no sign of bankruptcy. The names of six children have been entered upon our family register, the first (Grace) and the fourth (Winthrop Lyman) after tarrying with us a few days, passed into the immediate presence and keeping of our dear Saviour who said 'Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.' The four remaining with us are Henry Paul (who will be 16 in August), James Marquis (14 in February last), Ralph Dinsmore (8 in February), and the baby daughter, Calista Lyman, who will be 5 in October."
James and Sarah left their baby daughter's gravesite when they moved to Nebraska where he continued his ministry. They are buried in Omaha, Nebraska.
