Mrs. Peter McCornack, 93, a member of one of the earliest pioneer families of north Tama county, died Tuesday morning at her home in Des Moines. She had been ill several months with the infirmities of age and the end was not unexpected. The funeral service was held Wednesday in Des Moines and the body was brought here for burial yesterday. The Rev. B. M. Wallace, local United Presbyterian pastor, assisted the Rev. E . G. Williams of Des Moines, with services at the grave. Mrs. McCornack, whose maiden name was Jane Galt, was born at Poundland, Ayrshire, Scotland, on September 9, 1838. She came with her parents, John and Janet Wilson Galt to America in 1856, arriving in New York City on July 4 of that year. Accompanied by the McDowall family, the Galts came immediately to north Tama county, where they settled on land adjoining that of the early Wilson clan. These Scotch pioneers contributed much to the upbuilding of the Traer community.

The decedent was married to Peter McCornack here January 1, 1868. The couple lived for a few years on the farm southwest of Traer now occupied by Roy Kern. Later they moved to town, and Peter and Robert McCornack were associated here in the lumber business for a number of years. In 1898 Mr. and Mrs. Peter McCornack moved to Des Moines, their home ever since. The couple have always kept in close touch with Traer, however, and Mr. McCornack is still a member of J. G. Safely post of the G. A. R., being one of only two survivors of that post. The couple's only child is an adopted daughter, Mrs. S. L. Ainsworth, who has lived with them in Des Moines for the past several years.

Besides the husband and this daughter, Mrs. McCornack is survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Provan, near Traer. Her only brother, David Galt, died in 1925. Mrs. Peter McCornack was an aunt of Mrs. W. G. McCornack, of Traer, and her husband is an uncle of W. G. McCornack. Mrs. McCornack was a charter member of Tranquillity church, southwest of this place. After moving to Traer, she transferred her affiliation to the United Presbyterian church here, in which she was an active worker during her residence.
