Mrs. David Galt
The community was painfully surprised Tuesday morning on learning of the death of Mrs. David Galt. It was known the lady was seriously ill, but no one anticipated the end at this time. She died suddenly, evidently from heart trouble, as her heart had been very weak the past few months. For nearly forty years Mrs. Galt has been prominent in the life of Traer and vicinity.
She was a native of Canada, born near Montreal May 21, 1846. She came to Manchester, Iowa, with her parents, when ten years old and lived there until reaching womanhood. In December 1869, she married David Galt and four years later they came to this vicinity and lived on their farm until last year, when they became residents of Traer. The husband and five children survive, all of whom were here at the funeral services, as follows: Mrs. Grace Ward, Riceville, Iowa; Archie, Reinbeck; Mrs. Esma McCornack, Flora and Jennie, in Traer. One son died in 1883 at the age of thirteen. Mrs. Galt was a lady of strong intellectuality and was equally strong spiritually.
When the United Presbyterian church of Traer was founded, she became one of its members and led a consistent Christian life until her death. The funeral services were on Wednesday afternoon at the church. Rev. Melville conducted the same. The body was given a resting place in Buckingham cemetery.
