Mr. Blumer passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus, Davenport.
Alan Oswald Blumer was born October 5, 1921, in Davenport, a son of Oswald S. and Cecilia A. (Micklewright) Blumer. He was united in marriage to Florence M. (Potter) Heitman and they celebrated over 30 years together before her passing on October 22, 2003.
Prior to his retirement, Alan had worked 20 years in sales for the family run business Great Western Supply Co. and had also worked as a carpet installer. In earlier years he had worked in the packing department for Oscar Mayer.
He was a graduate of the former St. Ambrose Academy and a veteran of World War II, serving as a Radar/ Radio Operator in the Coast Guard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and CASI.
Alan was a simple man who loved life and enjoyed the time he spent with his family and his CASI friends. He was a loving father, grandfather, and stepfather.
Survivors include his daughter, Vickie (Bob) Warren, Davenport; granddaughter, Michelle Rodgers, Des Moines; grandson Shane (Jennifer) Vance, Shellsburg, Iowa; great grandsons, Mason Vance, Aaron Rodgers, and Tyler McDowell; stepsons, Larry (Nancy) Heitman, Bettendorf, Gary (Carol) Heitman, Davenport, and Mike (Mary Kay) Heitman, Surprise, Ariz.; sisters, Kathleen (Alan) Lee and Patty MacBeth (fiancé Joe Goetsch); brothers, Wayne (Dorothy) Blumer, Dean (Sharon) Blumer, all of Davenport.
In addition to his wife Florence, sisters, Janet Peavy and June Carstens, brothers, Dale and Tom preceded him in death.
