In Memory of Elaine Laymon: Having lived out her daily life before the audience of "One," steadfast in faith, and filled with hope that allowed her to bear every trial, Lillian Elaine Wallace Laymon was called home by our Heavenly Father while surrounded by her family on November 12, 2010 at the age of 74. Born in Beaumont, Texas, Elaine was the daughter of Lacy Lamar and Lillian Nesbitt Wallace. She moved with her family to Austin, Texas in 1939 and enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her brothers, swimming at Barton Springs, exploring the U.T. campus, watching Texas football games in the knot-hole section, fishing in Shoal Creek and boating on Lake Austin. She attended Wooldridge Elementary School, University Junior High, and was fourth in her class of the first graduating class of William B. Travis High School in May of 1954. In the fall, she enrolled at her beloved University of Texas and earned a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree with a secondary degree in Education in 1961. During this time, she met and married Wayne Laymon and began a family. Church had always held center stage in her life and the family made a home at Wilshire Presbyterian Church. In 1974 they became Charter and Founding Members of Hope Presbyterian Church. In 1985 Elaine became a Charter and Founding Member, Treasurer and Ruling Elder of Round Rock Presbyterian Church where she was currently a member. Her family was nourished in these "villages of faith" and grew to know God through the goodness of being among others who believed, with friendships that were precious and enduring. Elaine began her professional career at Concordia Lutheran College, was later the financial officer for the family construction company, and was employed as an Executive Assistant at Tandem Computers, now Hewlett-Packard from 1983 until her retirement in 2001. Recognized for her intelligence, strong work ethic and attention to detail, she saw rapid changes in the world of technology and business, gaining knowledge and many lifelong friendships. Elaine was an involved and faithful volunteer for many church, civic, and school organizations. It would be impossible to count the numbers of those who were impacted by her service, friendship, and wonderful meals. In honor of her mother, Elaine joined the Order of the Eastern Star, Fidelis Chapter #963 in 1992 and these friends filled her final years with much joy. Having accomplished all of these things, her favorite and most important role was "Mom" to her four children. She was a champion supporter and encourager, an organizer and motivator, and lived out her faith in such a way that all of her children know and follow Christ as their Lord and Savior. Her greatest treasure was her eight grandchildren into whose lives her legacy of love and faith will be poured out for generations to come and who will remember her for her wonderful generosity. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Lacy and Lillian Wallace; by her brother Lamar Nesbitt Wallace, Sr.; and by her former husband, Wayne M. Laymon. She is survived by her son Michael Laymon, wife Allison, and daughters, Emma and Sara Zoe; daughter Sondra Skomal, husband Mark, and sons, Wilson and Jordan; daughter Jennifer Burchers, husband Glen, and daughters, Anna and Lacy; daughter Marci O'Connell, husband Jack, and daughters, Lauren and Lily; brother Carl Milton Wallace, wife Nancy and family; the family of brother Lamar Nesbitt Wallace, Sr.; Joe and Rachel Laymon and family; Don and Ella Laymon and family; Ed and Kay Sellers and family; and Avery and Gelaine Bell and family. The family will receive friends on Friday, the 19th of November from six o'clock in the evening until eight o'clock in the evening at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar. Interment will be conducted on Saturday, the 20th of November, at half-past ten in the morning, at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park. A Memorial Celebration will follow at one o'clock in the afternoon at the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 5226 W. William Cannon Drive.
