The Father called his daughter, Virginia Erna “Ginny” Ames, home to His heavenly kingdom on Monday, November 15, 2010, at the age of 85. Virginia was a lifelong Christian. She was born in Waukesha, WI, on January 3, 1925, the daughter of William and Martha (Turkoski) Phipps. In 1945, Virginia married Frederick Gosa, who died 8 years later. In 1957, she married Douglas Ames and moved to Beloit. In 1970, the family moved to the Brodhead area, Avon Township.
Virginia worked on the Avon Township Election Board, enjoyed crocheting afghans, making unique handmade gifts, playing cards with family and friends, bird watching, reading, writing poetry, dancing and attending music jams. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brodhead and enjoyed membership in the Ladies Aid Society.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Douglas, Brodhead, three sons, Fred Gosa, Bob (Deb) Gosa, and Mike (Teresa) Ames, all of Janesville, two daughters, Martha (Ray) Marden, Janesville, Linda (John) LaBarre, Cincinnati, OH, sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William, John and Richard Phipps, and her sister, Ruth Tuschl.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Mark Neumann officiating. Burial will be in Avon Community Cemetery, Avon Township. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, until time of services at the church. At Virginia’s request, all donations may be made to HospiceCare of Janesville. The D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, is assisting the family.
