Phillip was the son of Elisha Vanderpool and Mary (Polly) Wild. He married Mary Jane Manley, 1887, in Iowa County, IA, and they had eight children.

Philip Anthony Vanderpool, 73, a resident of Council Bluffs for twenty-seven years, died at the home of his son at 2148 Avenue K Friday. Death resulted from heart disease. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He was a retired railroad employee. Surviving him are his widow, Mary Jane Vanderpool; five sons, V. M. Vanderpool of Green River, Wyo., B.M. Vanderpool of Chicago, Ralph, Clyde, and Riley Vanderpool, all of Council Bluffs; four daughters, Mrs. Lucille Huff of Omaha, Mrs. Raymond A. Smith, Mrs. Edward Leed and Mrs. Van Keene of Council Bluffs; three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 am at Cutler's chapel. Rev. M.B. Pringle will officiate.
