Mrs Gist Gee
Manning, April 27 - Died, last Thursday night, at the home of her brother in this city, Mrs Gist Gee, after an illness of several months. She is best remembered as Clara Belle Davis, daughter of Mr and Mrs C M Davis of Summerton.
About 18 years ago she left her native land for China, and upon her arrival there was married to Gist Gee, who held a professorship in Soochow University.
Mrs Gee became ill about six months ago, and, failing to improve, left for the States in hope that the change would restore her health. After visiting Mayo brothers and other eminent physicians in this country, she came on to Manning, arriving here about two months ago. The best of care and attention that friends and loved ones could rencder failed to give her any permanent relief.
The funeral service was held at the home of her brother, Joseph E Davis, Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock and teh body interred in Manning Cemetery.
The floral offerings were beautiful, the grave being literally banked with flowers, attesting he love and esteem in which she was held.
She is survived by her husband, who is now upon the seas, but not expected to arrive till the last of the week, and four children, the youngest of which is seven months old and which was left in China in the care of a missionary.
She is also survived by father and mother and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs Sue A Davis Pitts, Mrs F R Dingle, Dr T J Davis and Charles B Davis of Summerton, Mrs C R Sprott, Mrs J D Gerald and James E Davis of Manning and Mrs Marion Stokes of Korea.
