Civil War Veteran. Husband of Mary Catherine Schooley Wolfe who he married Nov. 17, 1870 at the residence of Harrison and Nancy Wolfe in Preston County WV. They were the parents of 15 children. William was the son of Henry S. Wolfe and Elizabeth Freeman Wolfe who are buried in Union Cemetery, Independence, WV.

Aged Veteran Answers Last Roll Call

The funeral of William Wolfe, well known citizen of Newburg dies at the age of 83 years - Served in Union Army.


William Wolfe, well known citizen of Newburg who died at his home there Monday following a brief illness was held from the Methodist Protestant Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the internment followed in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery, a large number of his relatives and friends being in attendance at the funeral.


Mr. Wolfe was 83 years of age, having been born December 12, 1840. He was married November 27, 1870 to Miss Mary Catherine Schooley who died April 14, 1922. The deceased was a veteran of the War Between the States, having joined the Union Army October 1, 1861, as a member of Co. 1 First Regiment VA mounted Calvery. He remained in the military service of the United States government until Sept. 1870. He was for fifty years a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Preston County.
