Odis Leroy Bishop, 92 of Arley, entered into rest on Friday, May 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Odis was born on May 18, 1926 in Parrish, Alabama. He proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army. Odis was a veteran of the World War II European Theater, and was a member of the American Legion in Arley. He loved history and his country. Odis was a carpenter who loved talking to people whether they were familiar or complete strangers.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 11am-2pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, where services will be held at 2pm. Pastor Robert Partridge and Elder Steve Wood will officiate. Burial will be in Kemp Baptist Church Cemetery in Addison. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post 106 of Addison and American Legion Post 4850 of Jasper.

Odis is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mavinee Bishop; son, Paul Bishop and his wife, Karen; daughters, Susan Shadix and her husband Dale, and Julia Bishop; sister, Annie Mae Brumley. He was "Papa" to 9 grandchildren, Lori Spain, Jennifer McCord, Michele Hudson, Josh Bishop, Ashley Dutton, Leah Lee, Andrea Phillips, Ethan Shadix; 11 great grandchildren, Hailey Vickers, Kalyn Tyree, Brennen and Nicholas McCord, Cara and Callie Dutton, Jenna and Jax Phillips, Morgan and Mack Lee, and Aaron Gray Shadix; and 1 great-great grandchild Aubrie Vickers.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Ellis "Hez" Bishop; parents, James Ervin and Fannie Jane Bishop; and grandson, Aaron Paul Bishop.
