Ada Ruth Scroggs, 94, passed away on June 15, 2010. Family will greet friends at Strode Funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 21. Her funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1916, to Thomas Jefferson and Dora Jane Trent. She married Coach J.H. Scroggs on Aug. 4, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Ada Ruth graduated from Heavener high school where she played basketball. She went on to receive her bachelor of science and master's degrees from Oklahoma A&M. She taught Consumers Education at Oklahoma State University and Vocational Home Economics at Thomas and Clinton. Ada Ruth's greatest joy was working with young people. She loved fine arts, animals and sports.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.H. Scroggs; brother, Kester "Tractor" Trent; and two sisters, Billye June Sleigh and Thelma Trent.
She is survived by one son, Danny Harold Scroggs of Stillwater, Okla.; one daughter, Jane Ann Scroggs of Lewisville, Texas; one niece, Tommye Kay Wilkerson; two grand nieces, Stephanie Dawn Harp and Kerry Leigh Wilkerson; grand-grand nephew, Alec Trent Harp; and grand-grand niece, Rachel Elizabeth Harp.
