Dixie Vaughn died Feb. 5 at her home in Grass Valley. She was 79.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nevada City. Bishop Theobala will officiate. Private visitation will be held. Burial will take place at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.
Mrs. Vaughn was born May 6, 1929, in Buell, Idaho, to Hilda and Leland Morton. She attended grade school in Salem, Ore. After receiving her GED, she went on to achieve a certificate as a certified nurse's aid. She married Thomas Vaughn in 1960 in Eureka.
Mrs. Vaughn worked as a caregiver and a nurse's aid and was a housewife. She enjoyed singing, writing, reading murder mysteries and raising her children and cats. Her family was blessed because she loved them.
Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her grandchildren and caregivers David and Kathy Phillipson, of Grass Valley; grandsons Jeremy Phillipson and Joseph Voight, of Grass Valley; children Theresa Engel, of Grass Valley, Bob Bertell, of Wisconsin, Laina Bertoldo, of Anderson, Edward Engel, of Austin, Texas, Rodney Engel, of Grand Ronde, Ore., and Lisa Pasclike, of Salem, Ore.; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Vaughn; parents, Hilda and Leland Morton and six siblings.
