Flora was born October 29, 1917 in Huntington, daughter of Byron Anderson Howard and Nida Grange Howard and married Millard Marcelus Bardwell on June 28, 1941 in Huntington. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1958.
Flora graduated from Brigham Young University in 1940 with a degree in Home Economics. Following graduation, she taught secondary school in Emery and Garfield counties and then she accepted a position with the Cooperative Extension Service as a county home demonstration agent. She continued to work with the Extension Service in Garfield County until the early 1960's when she moved to Logan to work on her masters degree in food and nutrition. Upon completion of her degree in 1963, she became the food and nutrition specialist for the Utah Cooperative Extension Service.
She was instrumental in the development of a nutrition program designed for hard-to-reach elderly persons in rural areas. She developed and submitted a proposal to fund this program.
Author of 18 publications on food and nutrition, she held the post of Assistant Dean of the College of Family Life at Utah State University.
Flora was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be missed for her friendship,love and caring. Her memory is cherished by all.
She is survived by a son, Mark Bardwell, and two daughters, Linda (LaMont) Olsen and Kathleen Gittins, Nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; two sisters, Nida Mae Jensen and Jessie Barney; two brothers, Kent Howard and Willis Howard. Preceded in death by her parents, Nida Grange Howard and Byron Anderson Howard; her husband, Millard Marcelus Bardwell; a sister, Clara Howard Bagnell; three brothers, Aaron Bruce Howard, Byron Allan Howard and Wilford Clark Howard.
