Some time before 1860, the surname changed from Hickox, as there was another James Hickox on the same road, and there was trouble with mail delivery. Son of Reuben Hickox and Catherine Williams Hickox. Husband of Susannah Taylor Switzer/Sweizter. They had five children: Mary Amelia, Thomas Jefferson, Emma, Reuben Homer (never married), and George Gilbert. After Susannah's death, he fathered Lena (mother Mary Carstetter Hollingsworth). While there is no record of a marriage of Mary and James, James is listed as divorced on his funeral register. [Note that the original tombstone had an INCORRECT death year. PA 1908 death certificate 4308] The original tombstone was replaced in July 2015, and James' wife's name was added to this new stone. She is actually buried in an unmarked grave in Union Cemetery, Centre County.
