Wenatchee World - Thursday, October 21, 2010

Robert "Bob" D. Jordan, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 18, 2010, in Yakima, WA, after a strong, hard, short fight with lung cancer.

Bob was born on July 16, 1934, to Hazel and Dwight Jordan in Wenatchee, WA. After graduating from Wenatchee High School in 1952, Bob enlisted in the Navy. While in the Navy, Bob was stationed at San Diego Naval Base, and also in Korea, Hawaii and The Marshall Islands. While being stationed in San Diego, he met the love of his life, Carol Watson. They were married on September 18, 1954, in Yuma, AZ. In 1958 is when Bob moved his wife and two sons, at that time, back to Wenatchee, and had lived there ever since.

Bob was a very hard worker, providing for his family, making sure they had everything they needed. He also took in his wife's little brother and raised him as one of his own children. As Bob's boys became old enough to join Boy Scouts, Bob became a leader, from Cub Scouts all the way up to Boy Scouts. Bob would get right in with the boys; he even did a 50-miler hike with his Troop 80 Boy Scouts. He also did the soap box derby car races. He received the Silver Beaver Award for scouting; not too many people received this award. He was also a member of "The Order of the Arrow" for Boy Scouts.

Bob also coached hockey and baseball for his four sons as they grew up. Bob was one of the original hockey parents in 1965, when hockey started in Wenatchee; he also coached Major League Baseball, the Bomber Sign Oil. He also coached fastpitch softball for his daughter and took the team to the state tournament. He loved to watch his children play sports, even after they were adults. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, also. He could never get enough sports. In about 1975, he started Search and Rescue. He trained young adults how to read maps and use a compass. This group was trained to go out on searches for missing people or evidence.

Bob also took his family on a trip around the United States; they did 42 states in seven weeks. Bob worked at Eagle Transfer for ten years as a professional furniture mover. Then he went to work at Kawiki, and then he moved over to Alcoa and worked there for 24 years, until his retirement. Bob did crafts, as in beading and making jewelry, and also did craft shows with his wife. He loved meeting new people all the time. He never knew a stranger.

After his wife passed away, he went to live with his daughter, Debbie, and her family in Yakima. This past summer, Bob and his daughter, Debbie, took the trip he always talked about; going to Ireland and visiting The Jordan Castle. He loved to go hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Eastmont Baptist Church.

Bob is survived by his three sons, Dwight and Debbie Jordan, and Dwayne and Lori Jordan, all of Wenatchee, and Robert Jordan of Port Orchard; one daughter, Debbie and Cecil Reimer of Yakima; his mother, Hazel Jordan of Wenatchee; one sister, Dorothy and Mike Sweeney of Twisp; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Bob also had an extended family, Pat and Andy Voldberg of East Wenatchee. He was also lucky enough to have had several other people involved in his daily life who he considered as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Jordan; and his father, Dwight C. Jordan.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at Eastmont Baptist Church, 400 S. Kentucky, East Wenatchee. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday, October 22, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home in Wenatchee.
