Rubye was born on June 21, 1917 in Oswalt, OK, to M.C. and Ida Spiller High. She passed away to be with Our Lord on Thursday, March 18, 2010. Rubye attended New Mexico State A&M University in Las Cruces, NM, earning at Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Rubye met her husband Steve when she was a civil service clerk at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth, TX. After a long distance romance, they married at Warner Robins AFB, GA. They spent their life together as a military family, moving when the orders required. They traveled to as many places in Southeast Asia as possible. Later in life, they continued their travels seeing many places in Europe. Rubye enjoyed spending time with her family, making their base quarters into a home, sewing for home and family, knitting afghans for gifts, playing mah jongg and exploring the local area. She relished watching her children grow into adulthood and delighted in visiting with her six grandchildren, who brought her great joy. An avid flower gardener, Rubye was active in the OWC Garden Club at each base Steve was stationed, often servicing as an officer for the club. Once settled in Shreveport in 1971, she enjoyed many years of work as a substitute teacher for Caddo Parish Schools and regularly volunteered at the Barksdale AFB Thrift Shop. Rubye was a long-time member of St. Mark's and St. Paul's Episcopal Churches. Rubye's vital energy and zest for life and adventure will be sorely missed.
Preceded in death by her parents, Rubye is survived by her husband of 57 years, Stephen Davitt, her son Stephen Davitt, Jr., and his wife Mary of Mobile, AL, her daughters Stephanie Bange and her husband Jeff of Dayton, OH, and Susan Wright and her husband Hal of Shreveport, LA, and her six grandchildren, Christina, Sean, Peter, Michael, Melanie and Amelia. The family wishes to thank all who helped during her lengthy illness, especially the staff at The Glen. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home, 3130 Arthur Ray Teague Parkway Bossier City, LA 71112.

Services were under Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71104
