Erma Montgomery Slade passed away on November 10, 2010 at Legacy Assisted Living in Logan, Utah from natural causes. She was 91 years old.

She was born Erma Alice Montgomery on April 25, 1919 to kindly parents, Jane Elizabeth Waterfall and Earl Harland Montgomery. She was the third child of seven children, with four sisters and two brothers.

She graduated from Ogden High School and the Ogden Business School, with courses from Stevens Henager College. She enjoyed a long Federal career with the Bureau of Reclamation and the Farmers Home Administration. She retired from Farmers Home Administration as one of the first women Federal Housing Inspectors in the Western U.S.

She married her high school sweetheart, Clyde L. Slade on June 22, 1938, which was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were together for 70 years before his death in June 2008.

She never retired from being beside her husband, always caring for his needs before her own, seldom being separated from him. They were blessed with three children.

Erma was a woman of many interests, including boating, puzzles, snowmobiling, sewing and traveling. She purchased a new speed boat at age 79 which she dearly loved driving at Bear Lake. Her desire for seeing new places and doing things never ended. She was well known for her hand-dipped chocolates during the Christmas Season.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Business and Professional Women's organizations serving as President of both. She worked tirelessly for causes such as raising funds for Radio Free Europe and visiting the Veteran's Hospital in Brigham City. She helped build their house while her husband was away at war, during World War II. She served on the Board of Directors of the Ogden Government Employees Credit Union for many years.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, loving to teach Sunday School and serve in Relief Society.

Surviving are her children: Paul (Jacquie) Slade, of Provo, Utah; Annette (John) Alexander, of Hyrum, Utah; and David (Sonja) Slade, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Edna Hennifer and Jean Wilcox; one brother, Jim (Lavonne) Montgomery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; two sisters, Ellen Jones, Myrene Slightam; one brother, Arvil Montgomery; daughter-in-law, Lynne Slade and great-granddaughter, Elise Virginia Steffler.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at Myers on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
