Jennie A. Meckly, 75, of 421 S. Washington St., died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Muncy Valley Hospital from a cardiac arrest, where she was admitted Saturday.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert H. Akers, in 1956 and her second husband, Richard W. Meckly in 1996.

She was a switchboard operator at the former Sprout-Waldron for 10 years. She was a member of Muncy Baptist Church, a member of its Sunday school, a Sunday school teacher, and a former member of its choir. She was a member of American Baptist Women's Ministries and a former treasurer of American Baptist Women of Pennsylvania and Delaware. She was a volunteer at Muncy Valley Hospital and member and past treasurer of the Muncy Unit of the Muncy Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She was secretary of Muncy High School Alumni Association for more than 20 years. She was a former Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Born Sept. 2, 1925, in Millville, Columbia County, she was a daughter of Emerson D. and Ellen Smith Bardo Sr.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith E. Andrews of Muncy and Nancy A. King of Avis; two sisters, Cora Quigel of this city and Lottie L. Smith of New Columbia; a brother, Emerson D. Bardo Jr. of Muncy; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert H. Akers II and Fred E. Akers; two sisters, Ocie Carson and Della Johnson; and five brothers, Raymond and Clark Sellers, Luther, Charles and Donald Bardo.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, Penn and Market Streets, with the Rev. D. Gene Patterson, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Betzer's, 108 N. Main St.
