John A. "Jack" Birtcil, 56, of Villa Rica, Ga., formerly of Clarion, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Born June 24, 1954, in Clarion, he was a son of the late Robert A, Birtcil Sr. and Virginia "Ginny" Johnston Birtcil, who survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Christy Stephensen and her husband Stephen; a granddaughter, Abby Stephensen; two sisters, Deborah Young and Tammy Sharp and her husband Jim; and four brothers, Robert Birtcil and his wife Terry, Thomas Birtcil and his wife Kathy, Tim Birtcil and his wife Shelli and Ted Birtcil and his wife Pam.

He is also survived by his fiancee, Beulah Smith, 18 nieces and nephews, and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Sandra Silvis Birtcil Young; a grandson, Joshua Stephensen; and a niece, Ashley Birtcil.
