Dorothy Niedecken Baum, 85, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 13th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in the Hawley Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born on June 8, 1925 in Hawley and has lived in Abilene all of her life. She was very athletic and loved to play softball in her younger years. Later in life, she enjoyed gospel music and for many years was faithful to volunteer at the Senior Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sons, George Niedecken and wife Margaret of Abilene and Terry Niedecken and wife Kathleen of Ft. Worth; six grandchildren, Timothy Niedecken, Lisa Niedecken, Dru Warren, Carly Niedecken, Angela Lindsey and Timothy Simpson; six great grandchildren, Banning Lindsey, Samantha Connelly, Jonathan Bledsoe, Kelsey and Kara Warren and Zachary Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Dewey Niedecken (1985) and Leonard Baum (2005), her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to both Hospice of the Big Country and Wincrest Alzheimer's Care Center for their compassion and care for both Dorothy and the family.
