Captain N.M. Hanaford was born at Enfield, N.H. in 1791 and moved to this town at an early date, and always lived near Underhill Center up to the time of his death, which occurred in 1862, aged seventy-ones years. He served as a fifer and also as drum-major in the War of 1812. "History of Chittenden County, Vermont" Town of Underhill, page 691
