Mt. Prospect bank president passes away
William Busse, Jr., president of Mt. Prospect State Bank, died at his residence, 106 South Emerson, Mt. Prospect, Thursday evening, January 24. The funeral service, conducted Monday afternoon at St. Paul's church by Mr. Busse's brother-in-law, Rev. J. E. A. Mueller, was very largely attended.
Officers and directors of the bank served as pall bearers. The body lay in state in the late home of Mr. Busse, where the number of floral pieces filled the large living rooms of the residence. Hundreds of persons from the Chicago area called to pay their respects during the two days that the remains lay in state.
Mr. Busse's death was not unexpected. He had been ill for nearly a year, but the serious nature of his ailment was not realized until after the operation performed last summer. He continued his duties at the bank as long as health permitted. He had taken a great deal of interest in the bank remodeling that was in progress.
Mr. Busse had spent his entire life in Elk Grove township and Mt. Prospect, giving generously of his time to all civic movements. He headed the first war loan drives, served as chairman of the ration board and was a member of the tire panel. He was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and served as a deacon for a number of years.
Mr. Busse held a number of offices in the Lions Club, Mount Prospect Fire Department and other local organizations. The deceased was a member and treasurer of the Lutheran Child Welfare Association of Addison, Ill.
Mr. Busse started his business career in a general store conducted by his father, William Busse, in 1897. He later acquired his father's interest and opened a meat market as an adjunct to the grocery. These two departments were later sold to Fred Meeske. During these years Mr. Busse was postmaster for Mt. Prospect, serving the community in that capacity for 21 years.
In the meantime the Mt. Prospect bank was organized in which William was a director. Upon his election to the presidency of that institution he sold the dry goods store and since then has devoted his entire time to the bank. He became active in the Illinois Bankers Association, serving one term as its treasurer.
The deceased was born July 11, 1886 and was united in marriage to Miss Emma Fenz June 20, 1909, who passed away August 20, 1937. He married Mrs. Hattie Quindel April 22, 1944. He leaves besides his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Alton; two sons, William J., Mt. Prospect and Robert L., Arlington Heights; 3 grandchildren; his father, Commissioner Busse; four sisters, Mrs. Martha Froemling, Mrs. Mathilda Ehard, Mrs. Sophia Mueller, Mrs. Helen Bierman; two brothers, Albert and Fred, all of Mt. Prospect.
