Lydia Morgan was born in Putman township on February 24, 1838 and died at the home of her son 71 years, one month and 18 days later.

She married James Henderson on October 29, 1856. They had thirteen children, ten of which were living at the time of her death, six sons and four daughters. She had forty grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren living at the time. Her husband died in a train crossing accident on November 3, 1890, when most of the children were young adults.

According to a newspaper clipping from an Illinois newspaper of the day, "During her illness, which she endured with patience, she often expressed herself as being ready to depart and be with Christ in that country where illness never comes. She was a loving and devoted mother, a kind grandmother, a true neighbor, and a devoted Christian who was loved by all who knew her."

"The home mourns the departure of a loving mother, the community a good neighbor, and the church a noble worker; but what has been our earthly loss, has been Heaven's gain; for another star has been added to the Master's crown."
