After a lingering illness due to his advanced years, R.T. Johnson completed his earthly career at his farm home three and a half miles south of east from Douglass, Friday morning, May 21, aged 83 years, three months and 27 days. He was born at Louisville, Kentucky, January 25, 1854.
His father died when he was but a small child. His mother married David Wiles and they moved to northeast Missouri, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 23 he and the family moved near Douglass, where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Tury C. White on November 10, 1878. His wife preceded him in death on November 14, 1926. To this union were born seven children, two of them dying in infancy. Those left to mourn his going are Forrest Johnson of Douglass; Mrs. Hannah Jane Bailey, Gallatin, Missouri; Lee M. Johnson of Winfield; Mrs. Maud Clarkson, Canon City, Colorado; Capt. Acy T. Johnson, Chicago; 16 grand-children; 10 great-grandchildren; three half brothers; Jasper Wiles, Lawton, Oklahoma; George W. Wiles, Tulsa, Okalhoma; James P. Wiles, Cushing, Oklahoma.
The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church at Douglass. He loved his church, was a faithful and consistent worker, and a liberal supporter of its cause.
Funeral services were held at the Douglass Methodist Church Sunday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. George Watts, assisted by Elder C.E. Neff and Rev. H.S. Scott. Appropriate music was furnished by Mrs. P.R. Guyot, Mrs. J.A. Bare, Deloss Olmstead and Frances Elder, with Mrs. C.A. Ogg at the organ. Burial was in the Douglas cemetery.
