Douglas LeRoy Pay passed away peacefully at his home on November 7, 2010. He resided at 1411 East Forge Way (12495 South) in Draper, Utah at the time of his death.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 24, 1918 to Philip LeRoy and Georgetta Paxman Pay.

Doug graduated from South High School and attended the University of Utah. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Japanese Mission in Hawaii from 1939-1941, where he gained a love for the Hawaiian people and their culture.

Upon returning from his mission, he married his sweetheart, Edna LoRene Koelliker, in the Salt Lake Temple on November 14, 1941. They are the parents of one daughter and two sons: Kathryn (Robert) Barney, Jerry (Renee) Pay, Steven (Christina) Pay; fourteen grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.

Doug was a gemologist and worked for Hubbard-Denn Jewelry. He was also an accountant for the Utah Fish and Game Department from 1958-1984.

He served in many positions in the LDS Church in the bishopric, high council, Sunday School, as a Priesthood leader, a Stake mission president, a choir director, and an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple.

He had a wonderful voice and a great love for music. Doug also served with his loving wife as a missionary at the Museum of Church History and Art for over ten years. Doug lived his life based on faith and had a very strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; he governed his entire life by these principles.

He was a very special and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his kindness and concern for others, his cheerful disposition, and his positive attitude. He was truly loved by all who knew him.

Doug is survived by his children, sisters: Evelyn Henriksen, Dorene Lloyd, and Joanne Baird. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Harold, and sisters Marjorie Hinckley and Helen Call.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 in the Draper Second Ward Chapel, 1640 East 12700 South, Draper, Utah, at 12 o'clock noon. An open casket viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010, and a closed casket visitation will be held in the Draper Second Ward Building from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
