Benjamin M. "Ben" Pleasanton
Age 89, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2010, at Cadia/Broadmeadow Health Care in Middletown, DE.
Born on April 18, 1921 in Mt. Pleasant, DE, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Viola (Marker) Pleasanton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. In his early years, he enjoyed raising dairy cows in both Fair Hill and Rising Sun, MD. Later he moved to Newark, where he owned an excavating company for many years.
Following retirement, he and his wife, Gerry, enjoyed spending time at their home in Arizona and traveling to Las Vegas. Ben enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, dancing, and playing cards on Saturday evenings. Ben's most favorite hobby was work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty W. Pleasanton; a grandson, Adam Scheder; two brothers, Robert and Ed Pleasanton; and a sister, Patricia Bishop.
Ben leaves many wonderful memories to his loving wife of nearly 32 years, Geraldine "Gerry" (Stoops) Pleasanton; two daughters, Jane Sullivan and her husband, Bill of Easton, MD and Brenda Pleasanton and her husband, Steve Sampson of Hardy, VA; two step-daughters, Beverly Newman and her husband, Michael of Georgia and Donna Sexton and her husband, Ralph of PA; one step-son, John Clanton III and his wife, Shawna of Oregon; eight grandchildren, Karlyn, Stephanie, Hillary, Melissa, Mark, Jennifer, Marissa and Sarah; eight great-grandchildren and many dear friends.
On behalf of Ben's family, they would like to thank the staff at Christiana Hospital, Gardens at White Chapel, Cadia/Broadmeadow Health Care and Delaware Hospice, Inc. in Wilmington for their kindness and compassionate care extended to Mr. Pleasanton and his family.
A special thank you to Bill Pleasanton for his "male" support over the years.
Funeral services will be held 11 am, on Thursday, November 11, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may visit from 10-11 am. Interment will follow in Forest Cemetery in Middletown.
