One of the early settlers, William Grippen came to Corinth in about 1795. At that time there were no roads, and he had to follow blaze marks made in the trees with hatchets. He arrived at the cabin of Mr. Benjamin Ide, and boarded there until he was able to purchase his own patch of land.
He married Benjamin Ide's daughter Patience on Dec 24, 1797 and they had a large family including:
