Mrs. Myrtle Jane Chitwood Van Horn, 55 widow of the late John Chitwood, died at her home in Cincinnati on Friday, October 29th after an illness of three months. The body was returned to Hickman Funeral Home for burial. The deceased was born May 15, 1912 in McCreary County and was the daughter of the late Joe Watters and Vada Stephens Watters. Mrs. Van Horne, a nurse, had made her home in Whitley City until 1965. When she went to Cincinnati to work, She was a member of the Baptist faith. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Tom L. Sharp, Ft. Ogle, Georgia; Elaine Chitwood, and Mrs. Grant Huff, Cincinnati; Mrs. Gary Corder, Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Morton Duval, Stearns; 7 sons Ernest Chitwood, Pine Knot; Lawrence Chitwood, Norwood, Ohio; Henry Chitwood, Sidney, Ohio; Abraham Chitwood, Whitley City; Junior Chitwood, Whitley City; Jackie Chitwood, U.S. Army and Jimmie Chitwood, Cincinnati; three sisters, Mrs. Clora Mason, Whitley City, Mrs. Mary Powell, Texas, Mrs. Sue Hoff, Columbia, S.C. and two brothers, Leslie and Butler Watters, Whitley City. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Second Baptist Church, Whitley City with Rev. Harvey Corder officiating. Burial was in the Holloway Cemetery.
