George O. "G.O." Brown, 77, died Thursday at his residence after a long illness. The Bulloch County native was a retired auto mechanic and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having received the Purple Heart medal while serving in Germany.

Survivors include his wife, Lucile Heath Brown, Statesboro; four stepdaughters, Belle Revelle, Gale Deal, Barbara Wilson and Brenda Motes, all of Statesboro; one brother, Eldridge Brown, Brooklet; one sister, Hattie G. Kitchens, Savannah; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Turner Funeral Home with Rev. James Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Brooklet City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons.
