MARTINSVILLE MORNING POST, Martinsville, Va
Walter Marshall Leake, 52-year-old lifelong Henry County citizen and farmer, met almost instant death late Saturday night resulting from a fall from a truck near the Price and Marshall store, one mile southwest of Horsepasture. He suffered a fractured neck as well as severe lacerations about he face and body.
Leake was riding in the rear of a truck owned by Thomas Hensley, farmer, upon whose place Leake resided as a tenant farmer. Rounding a curve near the store, Leake lost his balance, and toppled onto the ground. A car behind the truck ran over Leakes' body after he fell.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Christian View Church, near the home. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his widow, one son and one daughter, two brothers, Jesse Leake, Price, NC., and Shelton Leake, Reidsville, N.C., and two sisters, Mrs. Willie Eanes, Axton, and Mrs. Walter Eanes of Martinsville. His parents the late John and Nannie Leake of the Mayo section, died several years ago.
