DEAN QUENTIN ECKLEIN was born to John Albert and Kathryn Maxson Ecklein in Arlington, South Dakota where his father was the manager of the elevator. He graduated from high school in Arlington where his mother was a teacher. After graduation he entered the United States Army in November of 1940, serving during W W II,

June 2, 1946 he married LaVonne Lois Lommen in Kingsbury County, South Dakota. Their first child died at birth and is buried in Arlington. They had three more sons. Dean owned a bakery in Arlington and later the family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he was the head baker for Dayton's bakery in downtown Minneapolis.

Dean had heart problems for several years and died at the age of 53 of a heart attack in his Richfield home. He is survived by his wife and three sons. Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, Minnesota.
