Charles Ellison who has lived in this city since its pioneer days, active in church and civic affairs, passed away early today at his home 512 Quince street following an illness which kept him indoors since January.
Mr. Ellison was born on June 25, 1853 at Znebak [sic], Norway and was married to Helen Anderson on December 27, 1875. In 1882 the young couple came to America and settled at that old Norwegian-American colony, Eau Claire, Wis. In 1885 they moved to Brainerd and have lived here since.
He was an employee of the J. J. Howe Lumber co. and the Mahlum Lumber Co. when the two companies were operating here. He retired 15 years ago.
Mr. Ellison was a valuable member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church, holding the office of treasurer for 25 years as well as other church offices. For many years he was an election judge in his precinct.
Surviving besides his widow are two sons, A. E. Ellison, Bemidji, A. J. Ellison, Brainerd, also four grandchildren, John, Malcolm, James and Evelyn Ellison, Brainerd.
Funeral rites will be conducted from the Bethlehem Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. R. Michaelson officiating. Previous to the church service there will be brief rites for the family and relatives at the home of A. J. Ellison, 523 North 4th street. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery.
