The son of William Long (1746-1818) and Agnes Culbertson (1749-1829), Alexander married Annie Lemmon and, for a time, lived in Scott County, Kentucky.

At some point they and several of their family members moved to eastern Shelby County where they farmed for a living.

Antioch is a family cemetery, centered around Alexander and his wife, their children and their own families.

On the 23d ult., at his residence in this county, Mr. Alexander Long, in the 64th year of his age.
The deceased will long be remembered by a numerous circle of friends and acquaintances, for his amiable deportment in all the relations of life. He was a consistent member of the Christian Church. The principles which governed his life sustained him in death.
