Achilles, 5 years old, was the beloved dog of Louis Russell. Achilles who is described as a sweetheart was shot by a burglar. He was found by his owner the morning of Wednesday, November 3, 2010.
Achilles was shot twice. St. Petersburg police rushed the dog to a nearby animal medical center in a cruiser but after five hours, Achilles passed away due to his severe injuries.
No one has been arrested in the case.
The burglar was a black man in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall and 175 to 180 pounds. He had short hair according to police, and was wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt.
He drove away in a 1980s-model, two-door Buick Regal with tinted windows and 20-inch chrome rims.
Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call police at (727) 893-7780, or anonymously at (727) 892-5000 or by text at (727) 420-8911.

Achilles was a sweetheart to all the people he knew and was great when playing with his children.

The owner is distraught and no longer wants to live in the same place where Achilles was brutally shot.

Please take a minute and read about this wonderful dog and what happened to him. Thank You.

Article about Achilles.

UPDATE: Typical of the Tampa Bay Area no arrest has been made and the search for the man who killed Achilles is not a top investigation. This is far from being rare. They never seem to catch animal abusers in this area and when they do arrest them, they get a very lenient sentence if any.
