Nettie (Kroeker) Friesen, of Henderson, NE, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Henderson. She was born on September 28, 1920, the last of five children, to Gerhard and Anna (Peters) Kroeker. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a revival meeting when she was in high school. She was baptized by Rev. A.W. Friesen upon her confession of faith on May 12, 1940, then became a lifelong faithful member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church. For her grade school education she attended District #31, and graduated from Henderson High School in 1939. On April 12, 1942, she married David A. Friesen. Rev. A.W. Friesen married them in a small at-home ceremony. Three children were born to them: Jerrene, Dwaine, and Morris.

Mom wasn't very verbal about her love for her family, but she expressed her fierce love and loyalty in countless ways of giving and supporting us even when we children were grown. Mom lived a selfless life of service to her God, her church, her husband, and her children. She used her gift of sewing to serve others: at home she sewed her children's clothes until they grew up and left home. When she and Dad helped other people harvest, her job was to help the mother of the home; sometimes she sewed clothes for the children. For many years she was on the sewing committee of Mission Circle I, sometimes serving as chairman. They stitched quilts, tied blankets and embroidered tea towels to give to the needy or to sell at MCC sales. Even when she was no longer part of Mission Circle I, she kept right on piecing and stitching quilts. All of her children and grandchildren have quilts made by Mom/Grandma.

Life changed drastically for her when the love of her life passed away after 59 years of marriage. Four years after Dad passed away, she chose to move into the Henderson Healthcare Center, mostly because she was lonely at home. She lived in the Center five and a half years. Here too, she found ways to serve others. She tried to help newcomers feel at home in the Center, especially those who weren't natives of Henderson. She crocheted hot pads for those who took care of her and the other residents. And she put together one thousand-piece puzzles! Many of her puzzles deck the halls of her family's homes, the walls of the Center and the walls of employee's homes.

Remaining here to cherish her memory are her daughter Jerrene and husband Cleo Watzel, son, Brad and Bretta Watzek, their daughter Brittany (Watzel) and Tom Shelbourn, children Stetson, Coy, Bailey, and Teegan; also daughter Bethany (Watzel) and Kevin Lindwurm. Cleo's son Steven and Denise Watzel, children Benjamin and Alysha. Cleo's daughter Tammy (Watzel) and Jeff Smith, children Erika, Samuel, and Sarah.

Nettie's son Dwaine and wife Peggy, daughter Sonja and Steve Ginger, child, David; son Travis and Pam, children Gavin and Jaedyn; daughter Kendra and Preston Switzer, children Hendric, Holden, and Heston.

Daughter-in-law Twila, wife of deceased son Morris, and her husband Clarence Busenitz, March (daughter of Morris) and Brent Entz, children Desiree, Dalli, Jolie, Jenna, Trayla, Hadleigh, and Karlyn; daughter Emilie and Dean Good; son Jeffrey and Denise Watzel, children Micah, Devin, Ryley and Addison; son Benjamil Busenitz.

Other survivors include three sisters-in-law, Lorene Friesen, Norma Friesen and Estaline Quiring; sister-in-law Marie and husband Harold Epp; brother-in-law John A Friesen and wife LeOra. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, son Morris, three sisters, Marie Wall, Anna Thiezen, and Elizabeth Franz, and one brother George Kroeker.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson with the Reverend Jim Voth officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-9 Thursday at Metz Mortuary, Henderson. The family will greet friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be directed to Henderson Health Care Center.
