JONESBORO - Opal Smythe, 94, of Jonesboro died Friday, March 4, 2005, in a Jonesboro hospital.Born Sept. 8, 1910, near Sidney, she was the daughter of James and Ada McKee Huddleston. She was a member of Sidney Baptist Church, a homemaker, a retired telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of Sidney Extension Homemakers Club.Survivors include a son, Walter Smythe of Texarkana, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Frank Moser and Ralph W. Smythe; a son, James C. Moser; a daughter, Bettavee Westbrook Robertson; four brothers, Mckee Huddleston, Thad Huddleston, Truman Huddleston and an infant; two sisters, Pearl Hightower and an infant; and a grandson, Frank Westbrook.The funeral was at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sidney Baptist Church in Sidney with Alvin Wiles officiating. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery at Sidney under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.Pallbearers were James C. Moser Jr., James Phillips, Jacob Smythe, Arch Westmoreland, Randy Bray and John Goldsmith.
