PFC Caryl M. Rehling US Army WWII

Caryl entered the service for his country October 2, 1940. He was a member of Company K, 3rd Infantry Division going overseas in December 1942.

He served in the North Africa, Tunisia and Sicilian campaigns. He was the wearer of three major campaign stars with the infantry badge.

Caryl was wounded in Sicily on August 4, 1943, suffering severe facial, chest and shoulder wounds. He was returned back to the United States and transferred to O'Reilly Hospital for treatment and plastic surgery.

Caryl was awarded the Purple Heart by Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt which as we know was a token of his country's gratitude for service he rendered to keep this nation of ours free.

Caryl died from his wounds on December 9, 1945 during one of his many surgeries. Caryl's name is on the Wall of Honor at the Soldiers Field Memorial in Rochester Minnesota.

Caryl was one of five Rehling Brothers who served in the US Army during WWII.
